Flickr (digital) divide

Was habe ich noch letztens gehört: das Internet ist nur so gut wie sein code ist. Und ein Code der zensiert verdient keinesfalls ein Lob. Niemand mag Zensur, mehr noch niemand will Zensur. Das Zeigt auch die große Aktion “against censorship!” die sich an flickr, dem internationalen Photo-Sharing Dienst richtet.
Als Hintergrundwissen dient die flickr-help-site. Flickr-Nutzer (können) ihre Photos in verschiedene Safety Level unterteilen. Dazu gehören:

1. Safety Level

• Safe - Content suitable for a global, public audience
• Moderate - If you’re not sure whether your content is suitable for a global, public audience but you think that it doesn’t need to be restricted per se, this category is for you
• Restricted - This is content you probably wouldn’t show to your mum, and definitely shouldn’t be seen by kids

2. Content Type

• Photo
• Art / Illustration / CGI or other non-photographic images, or
• Screenshot - what’s a screenshot

Nun, beim hochladen unserer Photos sind wir gezwungen auszuwählen welcher der Katergorien zu unserem Bild passt. So und jetzt kommt flickr einfach daher und sagt uns plump ins Gesicht:

Dann danke! Meiner (und nicht nur meiner Meinung nach) ist das schlicht und weg ZENSUR! Auf flickr selber laufen schon viele Proteste und Aktionen gegen die Zensur (http://www.flickr.com/groups/404938@N23/). Und selbst in der globalen Suche mit dem Stichtwort flickr erscheint nahezu auf jeder Seite der against censorship banner!. Der Protest läuft, und ich glaube dass viele flickr-Nutzer nicht locker lassen.
Bis gestern Nacht gab es auch keine Antwort von flickr selber. Heute morgen lese ich bei Kai dass flickr sich darum kümmern werde… Es heisst:

Was darus wird, werden wir sehen. Wer sich auch in einer Art und Weise angegriffen, verletzt, enttäuscht fühlt, der muss nicht nur zuschauen. Ihr könnt auch selber Maßnahmen ergreifen!
